Copywriting For the Internet Can Be Fun But Also Rewarding

Freelance copywriting for the internet is often a tough nut to crack, but it can also be a rewarding experience. Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that copy is used in a number of places including splash pages, bio pages, content, white paper and product reviews. Each use of your written copy demands a different mindset and angle of persuasion:

  • Splash pages require the fewest amount of words, yet the writing has to be powerful enough to draw the reader to the click here for more info button.
  • White pages often require that the subject mater be dry and technical, yet the copy cannot allow for boredom to set up the reader.
  • Content is the general term used for the copy seen on any page at a website. Content often includes HTML, images and information. A general sales pitch about the product or information is normally found in content. Content often requires a call to action.
  • Product reviews are a combination white paper and content in that technical information is presented that is persuasive and truthful. How do the features of the product resolve the needs of the potential buyer?
  • Bio pages, or About Me pages, are special. The copy is designed to build trust in the site owner or presenter of the information. The About Me page is instrumental in bringing the personal touch to a tangible feel on the site.
Another challenge presented to the author that writes copy for the web is satisfying the client's requests. This is not to say that clients are tough to deal with, this is just an indication that communication needs to be improved between the author and and the client. It is the responsibility of the author to find every detail needed to bid on, start and complete the job, so the author should ask all the questions about the job.

Not understanding the totality of the project and/or being intuitive to the client's needs can lead to extra writing and time which certainly lowers the author's actual pay rate for the given job.

Having to change styles to meet every instance required when writing copy for the internet can be a daunting task, but if an author can do this successfully, boredom will rarely set in and the writing will remain fresh. Change of pace can be rewarding and help transform a difficult task into a fun and rewarding challenge.
